Supervise and escort prisoners to and from court, medical care, visitations, and exercise. Inspecting all incoming and outgoing mail. Entering and responding to correspondence between inmates and the facility. Receiving inmate commissary money.
Clothing exchange and feeding of inmates. Update and maintain daily jail records. Routing jail checks and inspections. Report any and all incidents occurring in the facility. Transportation of inmates — locally and out of state extraditions. Work closely with the defense attorney, mental health counselors, AA counselors, local clergy, and many other members of the community who offer services to the facility. Madison County Detention Center Annual PREA Report In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act of , the Madison County Detention Center has established a zero tolerance standard regarding the incidence of rape and sexual activity.
The occurrence of sexual abuse at the Madison County Detention Center is very low. Sexual Harassment: 1 incident Sexual Assault: 0 incidents Madison County Detention Center is dedicated to providing strong zero-tolerance policies and procedures, and a safe and secure environment for the inmates, providing them with a comfort that they can report PREA allegations free from retaliation and in a confidential format.
All reported incidents will be investigated. Sexual Assault incident included two inmates. This report was found to be unfounded. Additionally, the custodian may charge postage fees. The Office will not charge for staff time required to reproduce records for noncommercial use. Any fees shall be paid before copies are made. For public records requested for commercial purposes, the custodian may require the requestor to enter into a contract which will include the fees charged by the Office. The Office will charge staff time required to produce copies of the records.
Please note that under KRS Those records which are not public are specified in federal and state law or rulings of the Attorney General or Courts, and the Office will not make those exempted records available for public inspection.
KRS As with other areas of the Sheriff's Office, our correctional officers receive structured training to ensure the best situation possible both for inmate and officer safety.
All Detention Officers are now certified by the State of Mississippi. The Detention Center is frequently inspected by state and federal agencies to insure compliance with state and federal laws and guidelines governing detention facilities. The Madison County Detention Center has always scored above average on these evaluations. Detention Center History There have been at least five jails built since the Madison County Sheriff's Office was formed.
